Up in Batu Ferringhi, at the Charlie Restaurant and Bistro, Chef David Leong is introducing a menu which incorporates local and Western flavours.
Their Set Xmas Menu offers a choice of soup or a sweet and sour Crab Dip with Man T’ou (buns), and a choice of mains: Turkey Drumstick, Lamb Shank, Steak or a rather unusual Fried Porridge.
Sounds a bit like an oxymoron, but it’s actually rice which has been cooked till it is soft then allowed to solidify, rather like the ketupat that you get with satay, after which it is cut into chunks and fried with prawns and bean sprouts.
It’s apparently a 100-year old recipe handed down from proprietor Charlie Sun’s great-grandmother.
